Have you recently heard about the holiday that's come to the forefront called Juneteenth? Why does this celebration bring such a strong sense of pride about the commitment that African Americans have made to the betterment of their lives and that of for their children, grandchildren and all past and future generations? This lecture with Dr. Arwin Smallwood of NC A&T helps you to better understand the history and importance of Juneteenth as well as increasing understanding and unity concerning the impact of slavery on not just African-Americans but all Americans and the historic efforts required to abolish it. The presentation will also draw attention to slavery in North Carolina and the over 5,000 African-Americans, whites and Native Americans that fought to end slavery and create a better life for themselves and all the people of the state of North Carolina after the Civil War.
