Extraordinary Musical Experience with Earth Spirit Taiko, August 18, 2017, 6 to 8 p.m.
Brightside Gallery, 170 Worth Street, Asheboro, NC, hosts its fifth "Front Porch Evening" of the season on August 18, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. with music in the front yard provided by EARTH SPIRIT TAIKO. Taiko means “big drum” in Japanese and the many big drums of “Earth Spirit Taiko” make an impressive and moving sound. The group was founded here in Asheboro in 2007 by Jim Sink who has also made all of the drums used by its members. Taiko drumming began in Japan about 2,500 years ago. It has evolved and flourishes in its native country and has become popular worldwide, coming to the States in the late 1950’s. “Earth Spirit Taiko” performs mostly arrangements of Japanese traditional and festival pieces, but also enjoys learning more recent original taiko compositions and even African rhythms. Listen to the heartbeat of the drum AND take a turn at beating the big drum yourself! Come out and enjoy a fantastic evening with these very talented local musicians at the coolest corner in town!!!! This delightful event is FREE and open to the public.
